The Harman Kardon HKTS 18 is a beautiful black lacquer speaker system with a powerful 200 watt 10″ subwoofer. It is a 5.1 speaker system which can be expanded to 7.1 with the optional HKS-9 satellite speakers. It has a 3/4″ tweeter for excellent high frequency response. i had the harmon kardon receiver, very suck interface, and confusing,
but the sound quality is so so great!!!! extreme good sound for a $180 audio quest optical cable out from my PC (playing CD quality music)

We received the HKTS18 back on 5/10/07, as we were trying to mount the speakers to the wall we notice the brackets that were supposed to be included were not. I called Harman Kardon to get the missing brackets, they said to fax them the receipt and they would send them right out, which I did, still did not get them. I then called J&R Music, they were the actual sales store for the units on 6/12, they said they would get them and send them right out, its onw 6/25 and still no brackets!! So if you order these, check for missing parts first thing and if you don’t have everything, send the entire system back, cause you can get parts! I did hook up the system, and it sounds ok, I just can’t get the seperation I need without the speaker mounting brackets. Really poor service.

The speakers have great sound. The instructions are clear and simple. Wall mounting the speakers may work but I did not want that. The speaker stand mounts are proprietary so if you’re planning to go that way you’ll probably have to buy the Harmon Kardon stands and pay the stiff price. I understood that going in, but the problem was dealing w Harmon Kardon. I could not find the black stands thru any one else. What showed up had obviously been around the block a few times. They shipped silver stands in a box marked black stands. There was not parts inventory included so I have no way of knowing if the parts were all there and they were all loose so who knows. The return process is problematic and has taken weeks. They are impossible to get thru to on the phone and I could not get their web return system to work for me. Eventually email worked but weeks later I’m still waiting for the right stands.

Bought this speaker set as it seemed like a great value and surely beat the deals at my local retailers, the smaller dimensions of the speakers fit in the space I am using it in, and I had a great perception of the HK Brand Name! Overall, the system sounds ‘OK’…HOWEVER!!!!!… After about a few weeks, my receiver quit powering the sub!…gave me a new receiver under warranty. A few weeks after using the new receiver…same issue as before…gave me a new receiver under warranty. My local retailer that I bought the receiver from testing both the receiver and sub this time (as they were covering the receiver under warranty)…only to find that the HK Sub was the culprit the whole time. Luckily, the local retailer I bought my receiver from is also the local HK warranty provider!!
I’m not a huge sound buff, but i have noticed that the satellite speakers can’t really push out any bass if I crank it up…sounds like it’s way overpowered.
If you’re looking for a middle of the road system to have a better movie experience or for an OK music experience, this system is good (if your sub doesn’t blow out the receiver twice!!). If you’re looking for a top notch speaker system….LOOK FOR SOMETHING BETTER THAN THIS SYSTEM!!! Oh yeah, and now the sub has some sorta popping noise when changing scenes in movies, etc… consider putting out a few more bucks for a different system

Purchased HKTS-18 system on July 30. One satellite speaker died on Sept 10. 10 day runaround from Harmon Kardon to get a replacement. Sent me to Amazon who sent me to Harmon Kardon who sent me to some out of state warranty service who sent me back to Harmon Kardon. This is insane.
